LAS CRUCES, N.M. (AP) - The Las Cruces fire and police departments are beefing up fireworks patrols this year.
Because of the continued drought, the city is only allowing fireworks on barren or paved lands with a readily available water source nearby.
The restrictions prohibit the use of fireworks in any city park. Officials will increase patrols Thursday, Friday and Saturday.
Police and fire are prepared to issue citations and confiscate illegal fireworks.
