2 killed in Durango small plane crash

A small plane crashed in Durango, Colorado, on Friday morning, killing the two people on board.

According to Durango Fire and Rescue, the World War II era P-51 Mustang crashed just north of the La Plata County Airport on County Road 309A around 9:29 a.m.

Authorities say there were two people aboard the plane and no survivors.

The Durango Herald reports the names of those killed in the crash as John Earley the owner of the aircraft and his flying instructor Michael Schlarb .

County Road 309A will be closed indefinitely due to road damage.

The subsequent crash investigation will be completed by the National Transportation Safety Board. The NTSB has been notified and is responding to Durango.
