Albuquerque residents made 1,624 calls about illegal fireworks that resulted in 19 criminal citations over the Fourth of July weekend.
More than 80 pounds of illegal fireworks were confiscated and more citations are expected once field crews in the multi agency effort complete their field reports.
Albuquerque Fire Department Chief David Downey praised the effort. “I want to thank the citizens for being civic minded and doing their part in helping to protect our great city from the threat of fire.” Downey said. “The City of Albuquerque remains extremely dry so we ask that citizens continue to be vigilant by being firewise.”
During last year’s three day enforcement, the city’s fire department received 1,742 calls and issued 10 citations.
