The Albuquerque Police Department has given their recruitment website a major makeover in hopes of attracting more quality applicants, and improving the recruitment process on the back end as well.
Sometimes, first impressions mean a lot – and for many potential recruits, www.apdonline.com is their first stop.
APD Sgt. Jacob Hoisington says the newly renovated site, filled with details about what life is like as an Albuquerque police officer, replaces a site that no longer reflected what APD wants to be.
“We were behind the power curve. Our information, our pictures were out of date, it really needed a facelift,” Hoisington said.
On the front end, the site emphasizes integrity and fairness and details benefits like tuition reimbursement, showing police work is about more than just stopping bad guys.
“We're not just looking for quantity in our numbers, we're really looking for quality,” Hoisington said.
On the back end, the site automatically disqualifies applicants who don’t meet all requirements, giving recruiters more time to spend on the best candidates.
“We used to do this all on paper documents, now it's electronic,” Hoisington said.
The site launched in the past week and has already netted more than 60 applicants.
