Firefighter injured by explosion in Jemez Mountains

Authorities say a firefighter working in the Santa Fe National Forest is in stable condition after being injured by an explosion.

Santa Fe National Forest officials said the firefighter was on assignment from California to assist with fire potential in the area.

He was taken to UNM Hospital with non life threatening injuries.

The incident happened Monday in the Jemez Mountains where Highway 126 and forest road 376 meet.

The location is between the community of La Cueva and Fenton Lake State Park. Deputies and Forest Service personnel were on the scene Monday.
