10-year-old Joseph Rivera reunited with his family early Friday evening after more than 16 hours missing.
"It was horrible, I never want to go through that again in my lifetime," Joseph's grandfather Charlie Rivera said.
Police found Joseph on the plaza near the Five and Dime early Friday evening. The ten-year-old says he left home Thursday night for some summer fun.
"My mom told me I could go hang out with my friends and I said oh ok so I go downtown and then by the time I know it it's already midnight," Joseph Rivera says.
He says a friend got in some trouble at a store and they ran out. Joseph says they stayed overnight in a motel, but police are investigating whether there is any truth to that. Charlie Rivera is just glad for the way Santa Fe police handled things.
"They didn't give up, they didn't stress us or anything they just kept giving us hope they would find him and they did- they brought him home," Rivera said.
Santa Fe police never issued an Amber alert because there was no sign Joseph had been abducted.
