The doors have opened and the pretty Arabian horses have arrived. They're getting ready for their close up this weekend along with the youngsters who will be saddling up.

"Horses are my life. They mean everything to me," said Maya Chavez. She'll be competing in several categories at this year's Youth National Arabian Championships Horse Show at Expo New Mexico. This is her second year in the competition and hopes to come out on top.

"I know that every competitor here, every youth, dreams of winning but I think that I have a chance too," Chavez said.

She's not the only one. Fellow rider Kate Mathews will be in the walk and trot category.

"I just love horses and I love competing. It's really fun just to have a partnership with a big animal," she said.

It's something that Kate's mother, Jessica, knows will lead to a better future.

"These kids all end up being top students, leaders in their schools, and they all go to good colleges. It's a great training ground for life," Jessica said.

For now, the girls are all about their horses.

If you'd like to check out the competition, it all starts Saturday.
