Nearly 40 Latino High School juniors in New Mexico are spending the weekend getting ready to make the next step in their academic careers.

The Hispanic Scholarship fund and Wells Fargo Bank is hosting a three-day, overnight empowerment conference at UNM for 38 high school juniors. Students applied directly to the program to attend Youth Leadership Institute and were selected by the Hispanic Scholarship Fund.

YLI is designed to give students the practical tools they need to successfully apply to top universities, have full access to financial aid and scholarship opportunities, and excel in school and beyond.

During the program, students will experience what it's like to live on college campus and interact with college students.

"We want them to understand that they are the bright future of the future and that they know that they will be able to achieve it. The partnership that we created with Wells Fargo and HSF, we believe in them," said Outreach Program Manager, Sergio Hernandez.
