An Albuquerque man faces several charges after police said he intentionally hit a 19-year-old homeless man with his vehicle while driving drunk.
According to APD, Edward Gurule, 53, had been arguing with Tiger Toya at a park. Both men left the scene, but police said Gurule got into his van and then crashed into Toya as he rode his bike near Broadway and Hannet. Toya was taken to a local hospital, where he is currently listed in stable condition.
Officers later located Gurule at the Circle K on University and Menaul. Police said Gurule had also assaulted his girlfriend and broke her arm.
Gurule had a previous warrant out for his arrest on charges of receiving stolen property, conspiracy and failure to comply. He was taken into custody on charges of aggravated battery with a deadly weapon, aggravated DWI, attempt to commit a felony and tampering with evidence.
Gurule is being held without bond at the Metropolitan Detention Center.
