Dirt created a ditch to overflow causing flooding in Algodones, Wednesday.

According to the Middle Rio Grande Conservancy District, the incident was a result of water coming off of a mesa, filling the ditch up with dirt and creating the overflow.

The overflow caused three homes and multiple fields to flood on Los Colonias Road in Algodones. About 10 homes total have been affected by the flooding.

It was originally believed that recent rain had caused a ditch to break. However, that was not the cause.

MRGCD and SCFD are assisting people with sandbags and pumping water.

According to MRGCD, repairs to the canal began immediately.
