Rain floods some area of Albuquerque

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (AP) — Heavy rains and thunderstorms have drenched Albuquerque, leaving some parts of the city flooded Sunday afternoon.

The storm came into the city around 2:30 p.m. and left areas, including downtown, drenched.

The National Weather Service has issued a flood advisory went into effect until 4:45 p.m.

Forecasters say one quarter to half an inch of rain is expected in central Bernalillo and Sandoval counties. Areas that were affected by wildfires are at risk for flooding.

Meteorologist say, for now, the warnings are for "nuisance flooding." Flash flood warnings will be issued should water levels become life-threatening.

Residents are being advised to keep pets and children away from arroyos and drainage channels.

More thunderstorms and rain are expected into the evening and the week.
