South Valley hit hard by flood waters after rain

Freddy Chavez came home to a lake in front of his mom's south valley home. 30 minutes was all he says it took for all the rain to turn into a mess.

He says rushing flood waters always fill his street when it rains. The water rushed between his mom's garage and her house, eroding away the earth and seeping into her foundation.

Believe it or not, a few blocks up the road David Trujillo might have even more to complain about. He says the corner of Coors and Barcelona floods every single time it rains. Each time his mechanic shop gets slammed because he says drains don’t work.

“My property gets damaged for the lack of the street maintenance here,” said Trujillo.

The flood waters were so strong they ripped retaining beams 6 inches off the slope near Trujillo’s building. Even inside, Trujillo says the ground shifts every time the ground softens.

But with a whole neighborhood blocked off from main roads when it rains, Trujillo says the damage to his property is the least of it.

“There was an emergency vehicle leaving, the fire department is right up the street, he had to slow down to a crawl to get through here,” said Trujillo.

Pumps have been out cleaning up all the water, but KOB is told that each of these floods is about 8 to 10 truckloads of water.
