SPARKS, Nev. (AP) - Nevada business leaders want the Legislature to consider holding a special session early next year to put together an incentive package to help lure Tesla Motors' $5 billion battery factory to the state.

But so far, legislative leaders aren't sold on the idea.

Nevada has a head start in competition for the "gigifactory" after Tesla officials confirmed they have a graded dirt pad in place east of Sparks.

But Tesla is keeping its options open with plans to break ground in Texas, California, Arizona or New Mexico.

Nevada Manufacturers Association leader Ray Bacon told the Reno Gazette-Journal (http://tinyurl.com/o65qb8q) a special session is the only way to legislate any package worth hundreds of millions of dollars.

Assembly Speaker Marilyn Kirkpatrick and Senate Minority Leader Pat Hickey say Nevada already seems to be a strong candidate without sweetening the pot.
