LAS CRUCES, N.M. (AP) - Police say a 46-year-old Las Cruces man has been charged with his eighth DWI offense.
Authorities Wednesday said Ruben Montes has been charged with aggravated DWI, driving on a suspended license, driving with an open container and following too close.
According to police, Montes's pickup struck another truck from behind as it slowed to make a turn Tuesday afternoon. Witnesses say Montes then tried to reverse and flee, but his bumper was stuck to the other truck.
Police says Montes has previous DWI charges and was driving on a suspended license. They say he had also disabled an ignition interlock device.
It was unclear if Montes has an attorney.
