Tony Day, the Tucumcari teenager who shot his adoptive mother, Sue Day, and stabbed her adult daughter, Sherry Folts, in 2012, was found guilty of murdering the two and sentenced Thursday.

He will spend his time at a detention and treatment center in a state Children, Youth and Families Department facility until age 21.

The sentence is the maximum the boy could receive after a judge ruled last month he was able to undergo treatment.

Day's lawyer says he was abused and neglected as a child.
