APD arrested an Albuquerque man Wednesday after he was found stealing copper wiring from street lights along I-25 near Broadway.

30-year-old Casey Chavez also admitted to three other thefts: one along I-40 and Carlisle, one off Coors and St. Josephs and one on I-40 between Wyoming and Lomas. The total damage of the theft totaled $34,200.

Chavez was caught in the act by a NMDOT worker who was looking out for similar copper thefts in the area.

Chavez is charged with six counts of criminal damage to property, four counts of larceny and possession of burglary tools.

His bond was set at $21,000.
