ALBUQUERQUE -- The woman who was found brutally murdered Thursday morning in a vacant lot at Utah SE and Zuni Rd. has been identified by Albuquerque police as 53-year-old Maryellen Gutierrez.

A witness said he saw a man and a woman having sex on a mattress behind some trees in the vacant lot before 9 a.m. Thursday. He said it didn't appear the man was hurting the woman so he went back inside.

"Ten minutes later I came back and put the tools away," he said. "I saw the individual bludgeoning her. He had something up in the air like a bloody brick. So I ran back in and called 911."

Police are still searching for the suspect, described as a 5'4" male with short hair who was wearing a red t-shirt, black jeans and was wearing a backpack at the time of the crime.
