ALBUQUERQUE -- What's better than a surprise birthday party for a 15-year-old? Things got a lot better than that for one Albuquerque teen Friday.

Miguel Maynez was a little shocked to see all the people and goodies at Casa Esperanza in Albuquerque. It's a special place for him and his family, especially since he's battled leukemia for almost a year.

The Denver Broncos fan got an autographed Peyton Manning helmet, and a Manning jersey to boot.

But Miguel had a birthday announcement that was the real icing on the cake.

"My first wish is to have my health and get through with this – with all this – with all the cancer; and today, they told me I don't have any more cancer," he told the surprised party.

That was the best gift of all.

But Miguel had a special guest: Zak Lannon, the West Mesa High School football player who had to give up the game while battling cancer.

Lannon got national support through a t-shirt he sold to raise money for his treatment, and was able to graduate last spring. He said he wanted to be there to support Miguel on such an important day for the young man.
