After a fierce competition between New Mexico law enforcement and fire departments over the weekend, the Battle of the Badges Blood Drive collected 363 units of blood to help save lives across the state.

Law enforcement won this year's competition by just three units of blood.

"This is so important to our community and we would encourage everybody to give what gives back life to people and that's blood," Albuquerque Police Chief Gorden Eden said. "We're happy to do this for our community, but we want to remind everybody that this is something they need every day."

Community members can find out how to give blood by visiting unitedbloodservices.org.
