Last week, The Albuquerque Public Schools Board accepted Superintendent Winston Brooks' resignation.

All week the board has met to discuss what they want in an interim superintendent and what the interview process should be like. Applicants had until 5:30 p.m. Thursday night to apply for the position.

The four finalists who are up for that interim position are David Atencio, Diego Gallegos, Veronica Gallegos, and Brad Winter.

David Atencio is a former Jemez Valley superintendent and is currently with the Laguna Department of Education.

Diego Gallegos is a former APS assistant superintendent. Gallegos is the owner of Amado Consulting.

Veronica Garcia is the executive director of NM Voices for Children.  Garcia served as the State Education Secretary from 2003 to 2010.

Brad Winter was the APS Chief Operating Officer before retiring in May.

Each candidate will be interviewed for 30 minutes.

It is still unclear as to why Brooks' resigned, but according to his resignation agreement, he will get paid $350,000, if approved by the Public Education Department.

Ruben Hendrickson has been the acting superintendent since Brook's resigned.

The board is expected to announce Friday who will be hired as the interim superintendent. Stay with KOB.com for updates on this story.
