Eddy Co. deputy arrested for domestic violence, placed on leave

EDDY COUNTY, NM -- An Eddy County sheriff's deputy and sergeant were placed on administrative leave Thursday after the deputy was arrested Wednesday night in Carlsbad on a domestic violence charge.

Sgt. Michael Chavarria of the Eddy County Sheriff's Office said deputy sheriff Lisa Springer was arrested by Carlsbad police Wednesday night. Springer was placed on administrative leave, as was Sgt. Carolyn Newman.

Sgt. Chavarria said charges and a criminal complaint stemming from Springer's arrest will be available soon.
