New Mexico State Police say a 74-year-old man posted up at an Albuquerque-area truck stop and gave them forged medical cards that are required to get a commercial driver's license after performing very basic physicals.

Bateman is a former chiropractor who's no longer licensed. Some drivers worry crimes like this cast a bad light on the whole profession.

"We're trying to do the best job we can and the safest job we can, and people are out there just to give us a bad name," said one truck driver. "We try to do everything by the guidelines and some people have to, and some people don't."

Bateman is charged with 609 counts of fraud because State Police say he issued licenses to at least that many drivers.

Police say drivers who bought the forged cards will have to take new medical exams and re-apply for their licenses.
