FARMINGTON -- For many, the Labor Day weekend is a time to catch up on sleep, but one group in Farmington got right to work to much local acclaim.

"It's a Godsend that these people get out here and help, it really is," said resident Marianne Branom.

With shovels, rakes and trash bags, the work started early this morning.

"These particular properties had elderly, disabled and they are on a fixed income," explained Farmington Police Codes Compliance Officer Todd Johnston.

Who's doing the cleaning? Farmington's finest.

"It is a positive, proactive approach to our community," said Johnston.

Taking a break from writing tickets for weeds for the morning, he said they were just doing their part in pulling weeds for some very grateful community members.

Marianne Branom and her 85-year-old father have gotten to the point that they just can't take care of the yard, and would have been fined if it weren't for the help they got today.

"I can't do it, I just can't do it anymore," Branom said. So what did she think of the extra help?

"It's great just absolutely super," she exclaimed.

Rather than taking the day off, these men and women, who could have been relaxing, sleeping or spending some time with their families, took some time to make their community a better place.

"It's great - I couldn't be more appreciative," said Branom.

"It is nice to help someone that you don't even know," said Ian Wilson, one of the community members who helped clean up.
