The University of New Mexico football team will be without a couple key players this Saturday against Arizona State.  Quarterback Cole Gautsche suffered a hamstring injury in last weekend’s loss to UTEP.  Gautsche is expected to be out a couple weeks.

“I don’t think there’s any chance he’ll play,” Davie said following practice.  “He tweaked it pretty good, so I don’t think there’s a chance Cole Gautsche will play this week.”

Davie also said cornerback Cranston Jones will likely miss Saturday’s game.  Jones suffered an elbow injury against the Miners.

“We’re going to do a CT scan to make sure there’s not some sort of crack in there,” said Davie.  “The x-ray was negative, they put it back in place, so there’s a chance Cranston could be back in a week or so.”

Kick returner Carlos Wiggins sat out Monday’s practice with a bruised knee.  Wiggins is doubtful for Saturday.

“He took a pretty good shot on his thigh on a sweep (play) early in the game,” explained Davie.

Wiggins was one of the top kick returners in the country last year.  He was the nation's leader in kick return yards (1,303) and returns for touchdowns (three) during the 2013 season.
