BERNALILLO -- A Bernalillo car salesman says thieves stole one-fifth of the cars on his lot overnight Sunday, and is looking for help in identifying the perpetrators.

Dominic Salazar owns Wicked Motorcars in Bernalillo, and said Monday that thieves turned off the main power cable, cut his business' phone line and the rest of the cables at the building before stealing seven cars and taking the keys to all the vehicles they didn't steal.

"It cripples out business," Salazar said. "Now we have to re-key all the vehicles here. It's going to put us out of business for a couple of days."

Salazar says he thinks the two men his security cameras caught walking around the lot were part of a "smash and grab" operation because the thieves seemed to take cars at random.

"There was a 2013 Chrysler 300 right here, which they had the keys to, and they didn't take it," Salazar said. "They took a 2004 Chevy Impala with 168,000 miles on it."

Salazar says restoring the business and adding extra security is going to cost tens of thousands of dollars.

Of course, he also says he hopes to recover the stolen cars, but for now, all he can do is get back to business as usual.

"We open up the doors tomorrow and we start selling cars again."

Salazar says stolen vehicles are often sold on Craigslist or in the paper for prices that seem too good to be true.

Anyone with information about the suspects are urged to contact Bernalillo police at (505)-891-7226.
