SANTA FE -- The 2014 Burning of Zozobra proved to be a record-breaking success. Official numbers from the Kiwanis Club said more than 40,030 people showed up to watch Old Man Gloom burn last Friday.

Santa Fe police originally estimated about 30,000 people showed up to the first Friday night burning since 1997.

Police said this year was the safest Zozobra event on record, and that no major crimes were reported.
