A phone scam in which people identifying themselves as Bernalillo County Sheriff's Department personnel has hit some Albuquerque residents.

BCSO says the caller or callers tell the person who answers the phone that they have a warrant for their arrest, and then give information on how to pay to avoid being arrested.

According to BCSO, the scam is not new, but the scammers have been using well-known names of department personnel to validate the scam.

The Sheriff's Office says it will never call and solicit money for every reason, and urges anyone affected by the scam to call (505) 798-7000.
