Monsoon brings above average rainfall to ABQ

The monsoon season is in full swing and this year’s rainfall is comparable to those rain soaked years of the past.

July of 2006 is the wettest month on record for Albuquerque. That’s when the so called "Lake Lomas" was formed in downtown Albuquerque.

This July hasn’t been quite as dramatic, but numbers are comparable.

“If we continue with this track that we're on, with this hit and miss thunderstorm activity that's been going on, and depending on how Dolly plays out, we could break the record for July," said meteorologist Daniel Porter.

In July of 2006, the city got 3.5 inches of rain. So far this July, 3.25 inches of rain has fallen in the Duke City.

That’s good enough for third on the list of all time wettest months in Albuquerque.

Last July, only 1.63 inches of rain fell in Albuquerque. And that small amount was still slightly above average.
