Joe Vigil
Joe Vigil is a general assignment reporter and co-anchor of Eyewitness News 4 Weekend on KOB-TV.
Joe laid the foundation for his career in television while attending St. Cloud University in St. Cloud, Minnesota. There, he earned a bachelor's degree in Mass Communication and Speech Communication in 1990.
Joe interned at KGAN-TV in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. There he gained his first television reporting experience.
In 1990, Joe was hired as bureau chief at KGAN-TV. He was responsible for reporting about events and happenings in the tri-state area of Iowa, Illinois, and Wisconsin. Joe says his most memorable reporting experience at KGAN was his coverage of the devastating floods of 1993.
Joe moved to Lawton, Oklahoma in 1994 where he worked for KSWO-TV as an anchor and reporter. While there, Joe won several awards for his outstanding reports. He won a First Place Associated Press Award and a First Place Oklahoma Association of Broadcasters Award for a series about unsafe bridges in the area.
Joe also won a First Place Associated Press Award and a First Place Oklahoma Association of Broadcasters Award for a series about capital improvements. In addition, he earned a First Place O.A.B. Award for a special report about latchkey children.
Joe joined the Eyewitness News 4 team in May 1996. Since his arrival, Joe has reported on a host of issues that affect the New Mexico community such as the rash of forest fires that struck the state in 2000 and the San Diego cult members who had ties to New Mexico.
Joe has also been honored with an Associated Press Award for his coverage of the bosque fire in 1996. The New Mexico Broadcasters Association named him Top News Reporter in 1999 and an Honorable Mention for Top Reporter in 2000.
In his spare time Joe enjoys playing golf, surfing, reading and visiting his family in Willmar, Minnesota.
