New 575 area code takes effect

New Mexico has now has two area codes for phone numbers. Sunday, the 575 area code takes effect.

The Albuquerque metro area north to Espanola, the Four Corners and the Las Vegas area will keep the 505 area code. Everywhere else in the state has the 575 code.

The state set up the area code a year ago but has given people all this time to get adjusted to the change.

For more than 60 years, the entire state has been “the 505.”
