MORIARTY, N.M. (AP) - Moriarty Mayor Adan Encinias is asking state officials for a special appropriation to help pay for infrastructure needed when the Downs at Albuquerque moves to Moriarty.
Encinias is sending a letter to Gov. Bill Richardson and Lt. Gov. Diane Denish asking for the funding. The city is seeking $4.5 million for water and wastewater projects.
Downs President Paul Blanchard has said that nearly all plans for the track are completed and the only thing preventing him from breaking ground is the infrastructure issue.
Blanchard said he hopes to start construction next month and begin racing in late summer 2010.
