SILVER CITY, N.M. (AP) - Freeport McMoRan has laid off 95 employees at the Chino mine operation in Silver City in a moneysaving move.
Spokesman Richard Peterson said the workers were notified Wednesday of the move, which was made “in response to the current market conditions.” They were sent home after arriving for work, he said.
The Chino mine has about 940 employees.
The company said 40 employees also were laid off at the Freeport McMoRan Chino mine in Miami, Ariz.
