Female suspects lead officers on car chase

Deputies investigate after a pickup truck lead them on a high-speed chase

Three women are behind bars after leading authorities on a high-speed chase through Albuquerque early Saturday.

The Bernalillo County Sheriff's Department DWI unit was on saturation patrol near 2nd and Paseo del Norte when a car was seen weaving in and out of traffic.

When a deputy tried to pull the vehicle over, it sped away.

Deputies were finally able to stop the pickup truck using a spike belt. Before coming to a stop at 86th and Central, the vehicle had been reduced to driving on its passenger-side rims.

"The vehicle came to a stop right here where we are which is Unser and 98th Street," BCSO Deputy Kyle Hartsock said.

Hartsock said the car's passengers are all women, one of whom is 37 years old. Police haven't released their names and aren't sure why they led them on a chase.
