SANTA FE, N.M. (AP) - New Mexico law enforcement officers will be cracking down on drunken drivers over the next 17 days as part of the Spring SuperBlitz.
Gov. Bill Richardson says drivers can expect to see stepped-up law enforcement efforts, sobriety checkpoints and saturation patrols throughout the rest of the month.
Richardson also announced the state’s newest anti-DWI campaign, “Women Drive Drunk, Too.” The number of female drunken driving offenders has increased and the campaign is part of an effort to educate the public about the risks of driving drunk.
State DWI czar Rachel O’Connor says nearly a quarter of DWI arrests are women and they account for one-fifth of alcohol-involved driver deaths.
The campaign includes billboards and television and radio commercials.
