Airman with NM ties killed in Afghanistan

An airman whose parents live in Glorieta has been killed by an improvised explosive device while stationed in Afghanistan.

According to a news release from Elmendorf Air Force Base, Staff Sgt. Timothy Bowles was on a four-vehicle patrol checking out a school near Bagram Air Base when his vehicle was destroyed early Sunday morning.

Bowles was deployed to Bagram in November of last year and was scheduled to be deployed for nine months.

Bowles first duty assignment in the Air Force was to Cannon Air Force Base in Clovis.

Bowles is survived by his parents, Louis and Lisa Bowles of Glorieta.
