Spring storm drops snow on New Mexico

Snow collected on cars in Grants, but not too much stuck to the ground

The calendar may say it's spring, but the winter weather showed up across the state Thursday, bringing freezing temperatures and snow.

From Tijeras to Edgewood, the snow was coming down Thursday night. Drivers making their way through the canyon had to deal with wet roads because of the light accumilation.

Road crews were ready to dump sand on the roads, but for the most part, conditions remained good in central New Mexico.

In Grants, state police and callers said Interstate 40 had low visibility Thursday afternoon. Drivers had a tough time on the roads throughout the night.

In Santa Fe, the snow was sticking to the ground. But people we spoke to were taking notice.

"It wasn't what we were expecting, but it kind of makes us feel like we're back home," one visitor said. "We're from Michigan and are used to walking around in the snow a little bit. But we were really hoping for some sunny skies and a little warmer weather."

Before the spring storm hit our state, it socked Colorado earlier in the day. Forecasters predict up to 15 inches of snow in the Denver area by Friday night.

Colorado's governor has already declared a state of emergency and called in the national guard.
