Man who ran over self pleads guilty

A police dash cam captured the case

Roy Travis Aguilar, the man who was run over by his own truck after an alcohol-fueled run from police, pleaded guilty Wednesday to charges related to the escapade.

The Santo Domingo Pueblo man pleaded guilty to driving on a suspended license, aggravated DWI and fleeing from police.

On November 23, 2008, police tried to pull Aguilar over on N.M. 16 as he headed down I-25 to Cochiti Lake. But when the 22-year-old didn't stop, a seven-mile chase ensued.

The pursuit reached speeds of up to 78 mph. Officers say Aguilar's truck nearly hit two vehicles as it swerved in and out of lanes.

After pulling off the road, Aguilar was chased into the desert, where he finally pulled over. Believing his truck was in park, Aguilar got out and laid on the ground.

The vehicle, however rolled over Aguilar's legs. Officer Grace Romero jumped inside the truck and stopped it from rolling back further.

Aguilar faces up to two years in prison.
