State officials are reporting widespread flu activity across New Mexico. Since the beginning of the flu season, 109 people in New Mexico had to be hospitalized because of the virus. Most of the hospitalizations have occurred in the last three weeks.

At least four people have died from the flu this year.

Doctors advise people with symptoms such as a fever and body aches to go get checked out.

"You want to come in and see your doctor and get it checked out to make sure it's nothing more serious than that," Dr. Janet Ventura said. "Because along with the flu or any other illnesses, there can be complications from it."

It's not just the peak time for the flu, but also other viruses are on the uptick right now. Anyone over the age of 6 months is urged to get a flu shot.
