ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. -- The La Cueva boys soccer team is ready to start the season next week, and the expectations are high.

The Bears start the year as the defending state champs in Class 6A, and they are getting some national attention. La Cueva is ranked 19th in the country in the latest United Soccer Coaches national poll.

"It's an honor to be 19th in the nation, but it's just 'put it in the back of your head,'" head coach Easy Jimenez said. "We have to move forward just like it's a regular game and season.'"

The Bears open the season Monday against Cibola.

"If we don't come to play, then that's what we're going to lose," goalkeeper Anthony Munoz said. "There's always something to lose if we're not going to play well and come to perform."
