Las Cruces' Baeza named Gatorade NM player of the year

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. -- Las Cruces senior Brandon Baeza was named the Gatorade New Mexico football player of the year. The award is based on athletic excellence along with academic achievement and character.

Baeza caught 41 passes for more than 1,000 yards and eight touchdowns this season, and he led the Bulldawgs to the Class 6A state semifinal.

Baeza also rushed for almost 500 yards and another six scores. He also returned two punts for touchdowns
