LOS LUNAS, N.M. -- The Los Lunas High School football team is off to a good start this season. Winners of their first two games, Los Lunas will play Del Norte this week.

Scoring hasn't been a problem. The Tigers scored 114 combined points in just two games.

First-year head coach Jeremy Maupin comes from Artesia, and the high-powered offense on his Bulldogs resume helped contribute to their strong start.

"I got to learn from the best coach in New Mexico high school history," he said. "… We focus on those little things, and we really tried to make the offense fit this team instead of making this team fit an offense."

Quarterback Nick Gaerlan accounted for four scores last week. He's not only a talented dual-threat quarterback, but he's also a student of the game.

"Last week, it was cool," Maupin said. "He gave me a paper of everything he had seen from watching Alamogordo and things that he picked up on."

"I hope we have more high-scoring games. but as long as we get the win. that's all that matters," Gaerlan added.
