ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. -- Sandia High School has a new head baseball coach, hiring Chris Eaton to take over the program.

Eaton replaces John Gunther, who passed away after a battle with cancer. Eaton spent the last two years as an assistant at Sandia Prep.

This team has nine seniors and six guys committed to play baseball at the next level. They haven't been to the championship game since 2012 and 2013, but expectations are high for this group.

"The amount of talent that's come through here over the years, the history they've had, and success -- back to back appearances in the championship games -- and with a team like this, absolutely we're expected to make a run," Eaton said. "And there's no excuses. It's on the coaching staff."
