ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. -- The first game of Mountain West Conference play couldn't have started much better for the UNM men's basketball team, which hammered Air Force Wednesday night with an 87-58 win.

Lobos moved to 6-8 on the year with the victory. Joe Furstinger continued his hot streak, recording his third straight double-double.

Coach Paul Weir was also happy with his team's defense, especially in the first half.

"But we weren't beat on a lot of backdoors. We weren't beat on a lot off a lot of dribbles or whatever," he said. "We just got them playing in the kind of game we wanted them to play. They were running up and down the court and trying to execute fast breaks and stuff like that."
