ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. -- The district attorney at the center of this traffic stop that went viral now faces reckless driving charges a year after getting pulled over in Grant County. She's now firing back at the state attorney general's office that charged her.

An attorney for Grant County District Francesca Estevez calls charges against her "political grandstanding," suggesting the prosecution is in retaliation for Estevez shedding public light on problems with evidence lockers supervised by the agencies who pulled her over in a state-owned car last June.

Video taken during that traffic stop shows Estevez performing a field sobriety test when she wasn't asked to. She behaves erratically and makes dramatic gestures, slurring her speech throughout the interaction with Silver City and state police. She almost crashed her vehicle in front of the officers on scene.

Both agencies launched internal investigations after officers let Estevez go.

Reckless driving and harassment charges were filed against Estevez last week, and her attorney said the charges are intended to distract from the botched initial investigation into whether Estevez was impaired.
