AZTEC, N.M. -- Law enforcement officials have not revealed any information about the gunman in Thursday's shooting at Aztec High School.

At an afternoon news conference, authorities said officers found the shooter dead and they believe he is a male. Two students were killed in the attack.

Reporters specifically asked if the shooter was an adult or a fellow student. Law enforcement would not answer that question. They also declined to say whether the gunman took his own life.

"At this time, we are going to hold back," San Juan County Sheriff Ken Christensen said. "Let's let the crime scene people work."

"That's an important factor. As I said, you are asking specifics and I get it. But it would be an error if I made a judgment and then crime scene came back differently," added New Mexico State Police Chief Pete Kassetas. "We'll know more."

Police are still in the early process of their investigation into exactly what happened.
