AZTEC, N.M. -- The community of Aztec is tight-knit. That showed Thursday night as residents braved the cold to come together and honor those who were lost in the tragedy at Aztec High School.

Candles lit a dark Minium Park. People gathered to remember those killed and honor the day's heroes. The night was also about healing and letting those who were hurting know, everything was going to be OK.

A relative to one of the kids killed said the vigil would have touched the heart of the young victim.

"She loved everybody," that relative said. "When anybody was down, she was always there to try to bring them up. She was a wonderful girl and I know she'd be very happy everybody would come to mourn her and join her."

With each prayer and blessing, those strangers became a family…united by a tragedy…committed to moving forward together.
