ALBUQUERQUE, N.M -- A week after the fatal shooting at Aztec High, students and staff were invited to return to the school Thursday for a few hours to bond with one another.

The soft open of the school is being referred to as an Aztec Strong event and will take place once more on Friday from 1 to 3 p.m. Counselors and therapy dogs were on hand as many teachers and students walk the halls for the first time since the shooting.

Representatives from the school district say they hope the soft opening will aid the community on its journey to healing.

Classes will resume Monday morning with an 8 a.m. assembly.
