SIERRA COUNTY, N.M. – New Mexico state parks are warning that blue algae has been found in a small area at Elephant Butte Lake State Park.

Blue algae is natural but it can produce toxins, so patrons are advised to limit their contact with it.

The blue algae has only been found at Three Sisters Cove. Officials say they’ve posted notices and handed out flyers to bring attention to the algae.
