A Bosque Farms Police Department spokesperson said officers arrested Martin Erickson on Friday. Police say Erickson opened fire near Valencia Middle School students doing community service around Tome Hill.

In an effort to assist Valencia County sheriff's deputies, school resource officer Alfred Torrez was headed toward Valencia Elementary School. Torrez tried to pass a civilian vehicle but that car turned left in front of the officer. Torrez's cruiser T-boned the civilian car and the driver, 69-year-old Robin Arthun, died.

Capt. Angie Byrd said Bosque Farms police officers arrested Erickson around 4 p.m. near the municipal courthouse in Peralta. Erickson was seen riding a motorcycle, she said.

Erickson faces multiple charges, but further details were not immediately known. He will be taken to the Valencia County jail.
