COLFAX COUNTY, N.M. – A burn ban is now in effect in parts of New Mexico due to the unseasonably dry and warm winter the state is experiencing.

The Colfax County Fire Marshal’s Office has issued the ban effective immediately. The ban effects the Farley, Miami, French Tract, Vermejo Park and District 8 (Raton) Fire Districts.

Open burning within the areas of Colfax County listed above is banned and no burn permits will be issued.

The Fire Marshal’s Office says current permits have also been revoked.

In addition to the ban, outside smoking is not permitted except for within a barren area that is three-foot in diameter.  Outdoor fireplaces, stoves, chimeneas and charcoal briquette barbecues and all open flames are prohibited.
